toothbrushes

My electric toothbrush uses a series of beeps to guide me through an optimal routine of brushing each section of my teeth for the right amount of time. However, I can't help but wonder why I still have to hold my toothbrush.

as good fortune would have it

I just rechecked the syllabus and my paper is actually due Friday, while I thought it was due tomorrow.
Angel on my shoulder: Brad, you should keep working on it and finished it early to give yourself a cushion in case you need it.
Devil on my shoulder: Woo hoo! Forget about the paper! It's not due for three days!

As usual, the latter won without much resistance. I think I deserve a break.

scp Input/Output error for large files

So I've been playing with my Neo1973 a lot and recently I was setting up ScummVM so I could play Beneath a Steel Sky. I was copying over the large (70M) dsk file with scp and this happened:

$ scp sky.dsk root@192.168.0.202:/media/card/programs/bass
root@192.168.0.202's password:
sky.dsk                               100%   69MB  87.0KB/s   13:33
scp: /media/card/programs/bass/sky.dsk: Input/output error

Luckily it turns out there is a workaround. It doesn't give you any feedback about what's going on but it works. First you need to delete the partial file from the Neo, then run:

cat sky.dsk | ssh root@192.168.0.202 'cat > /media/card/programs/bass/sky.dsk'

and I am now happily playing with ScummVM on my Neo.

Update: this has been filed as a bug in openmoko (http://bugzilla.openmoko.org/cgi-bin/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=677) and a different workaround has been suggested which I find more palatable. Just use the -l option of scp to limit the transfer speed to 100, like so:

scp -l 100 sky.dsk root@192.168.0.202:/media/card/programs/bass
